PPI #73: Win More Often with 90-Day Plans

Nov 02, 2020

SUMMARY

  • In this episode, I'll take you through the 90-day planning tool I use that can help you create incredible insights and momentum in your life.
  • The first thing that I do is complete a review and goal-setting process for the next quarter to come, a week before the current quarter ends. Make sure you do this a week before your quarter ends.
  • The next step is to ask yourself these four questions: What went super well this quarter? What could have gone better? Were there any learnings or insights? What actions will I consider taking as a result? When you reach the answers to these questions, lay them out in the next quarter to come.
  • What I do next is pick five to seven objectives with sub-steps under them and make sure that they are assigned to the right people with the right metrics. After setting these goals, I schedule them in the 13 weeks available. This will let you know what the things you need accomplish by specific deadlines.
  • These simple steps create a roadmap for the next quarter, so you're fully prepared for what will happen in the next 90 days. This will significantly increase your momentum and output and lead to faster progress.

TRANSCRIPT

Today, I'm going to take you through how I use 90-day plans to create incredible insights and momentum in my businesses and life.

So today I'm going to give you a very, very quick tutorial and how you can use 90-day planning to really ignite the amount of insight and momentum that you have in both your business and life. Now, one of the most important things that you can do towards the end of every single quarter. A quarter is 13 weeks, right? One of the most important things that you can do is, in the week before the quarter ends, to do a review and a goal-setting process for the quarter to come.

So with a review, I ask myself four questions. I look at the 90 days that have just happened. The quarter that's just happened. The 13 weeks that have just happened. And I ask myself four things: What went super well this quarter? What could have gone better? Were there any learnings or insights? And what actions will I consider taking as a result? All of that then I feed into my planning for the next quarter.

I pick anywhere between five to seven objectives with sub-steps underneath them, make sure that they're clearly assigned to different members of the team with clear dates and/or metrics. And then, I look at the 13 weeks that I have in the quarter to come, and I take those goals and I actually drop them into the weeks so that I know what's happening weeks one through two, three, four, five, six, et cetera, all the way through week 13.

So I have a roadmap, if you will, for the entire quarter to come. Try this as a 90-day planning tool, reviewing the quarter that's happened with those four questions and then setting your new goals for the quarter ahead and making sure that all the goals break down into weeks, which weeks that you're going to be doing them and the 13 weeks to come. And you will experience a significant increase in both the insight and momentum that you're seeking in both your business and life.
