Oct 19, 2020

SUMMARY

  • In this episode, I'll share the two secrets to Michael Jordan’s legendary status. My hope is you'll use this basketball legend’s experience, to aim for similar success in your business and life.
  • After getting kicked out of the playoffs in 1995, Michael’s trainer, Tim Grover, asked him, “When do you want to start working on next season?”  Jordan’s answer? “Tomorrow.” On his fourth championship attempt, Michael was met with the same question from his trainer. His answer was once again, “Tomorrow.” The  very next day, he started training without rest and without break.
  • The first secret that made Michael Jordan the legend that he is today is his determination. He wanted to win at all costs, and he pursued his goal every day.
  • The second success secret is his commitment to his practice. He followed his schedule and stayed on his routine no matter what. That's the very thing that leads to championships.
  • If you want to reach your full potential and aim for the same legendary status in your life, you should ask yourself two questions: Are you determined to win? Are you going to commit to what will make you achieve your goals?

TRANSCRIPT

In 1995, Michael Jordan returned to the NBA, in the hopes of winning another championship. It would have been his fourth championship but they didn't make it, they lost, and they got kicked out of the playoffs. Tim Grover, his trainer, asked Michael, "When do you want to start working on next season?" moments after they lost their last game. Michael's response, "Tomorrow.” Today, I'm going to talk about the two things that separated Michael Jordan from all the rest and made him the legendary athlete that he was.

Michael Jordan comes back to the NBA, tries to win that fourth championship. They don't make it to the finals. His trainer, Tim Grover, asked him, "Well, when do you want to start working on next season?" And his answer once again was, "Tomorrow." He said ‘tomorrow’ the very next day—start training again, no rest, no break. There were two things that I think separated Michael from all the rest that gave him his championship legendary status. Number one, his determination to win at all costs. He would do whatever it took to win. And number two, his relentless commitment to his practice, his schedule, his routine, the thing that would create the wins, the thing that would create the championships.

So my question to you is, if you want to achieve legendary champion status in your life, if you want to reach your fullest potential, I want you to ask yourself two questions. Are you truly determined to be your best? Are you truly determined to win? And are you truly determined to commit, to do whatever it takes to stick to your schedule, to practice, to follow that routine which will allow that action to translate into results so that you can win your championship in the areas of life that matter most or in the areas of business that matter most?
