Oct 12, 2020

SUMMARY

  • In this episode, I'll teach you a very simple technique to help you reach a flow state and work efficiently without being distracted. Do you find yourself unable to achieve everything you want to accomplish in a day because you couldn’t focus on the things you need to do? A flow state, which is the feeling of being in the zone, at your most creative and most productive, is what you need.
  • Before you enter a period of work, the first thing you need to do is close your eyes and take your first set of three deep breaths. This is for your relaxation. You breathe in through the nose, out through your mouth, and release the tension in your body. These three deep breaths are you telling yourself that you are relaxed. You can go ahead and tell yourself “With these three deep breaths, I am now relaxing” to kick-start your flow state.
  • The next set of three deep breaths is for letting go of the past. At that moment, you will no longer identify with the past. The past doesn’t exist in your flow state. What matters most is the present and the relaxed state you want to be in.
  • The third set of three deep breaths is for letting go of the future. You may say to yourself, "With these next three deep breaths, I'm letting go of the future. The future hasn't happened yet. I need only focus on where I am right now."
  • The fourth set of three deep breaths is for taking a vacation in the present. Having let go of both your past and your future, you are now living in the present where you are relaxed and focused. The present is the only place that you need to be in right now.
  • The last three deep breaths are your release to your flow state.  You can now focus on your work distraction-free and achieve the highest levels of productivity. if you're getting anxious and distracted again, keep doing the sets of deep breaths and return to your flow state easily.

TRANSCRIPT

Does this sound familiar? You sit down to work on something important to you. A few minutes into it, and you're starting to think about something else. Suddenly you're researching something on the net. Now the phone rings. Now you start going back to what you're working on. Suddenly an hour is gone. Then the whole day goes by and you get to the end of the day and you look back and you go, "I didn't do anything that I had wanted to achieve today." Well, that's how my life used to be day after day. But today I'm going to share with you how you can rapidly get into a state of flow, how you can generate what's called a flow state very, very quickly so that you can work in a very distraction-free, super focused way to get done whatever it is that you need to do.

Hi, my name is Eric Partaker and I help entrepreneurs and leaders scale up themselves, their companies, and their wellbeing, all in a quest to help people unlock their fullest potential in both business and life. And today I want to teach you a very simple technique that you can use to generate what's called a flow state. Now, for those of you that don't know, a flow state is a state in which you're working or doing something where you pretty much lose any sense of time. Often athletes will feel it when they're in the zone, for example, and they're just hitting shot after shot and everything just feels effortless. And that's a state that also is related to us being in our most creative, most focused, distraction-free mode. And it's a state that we can generate at will if we practice. And I'm going to give you a simple sequence of deep breaths that you can use to clear your mind and generate an instant flow state so that you can work distraction-free on whatever it is that matters to you in the moment.

The first thing that you're going to do is before you enter a period of quality work where you want to work distraction-free, even if it's just for 20 minutes or 30 minutes, whatever it may be, we want to invoke and generate a flow state. And we do that first by taking all these are sets of three deep breaths, okay? So you're going to close your eyes and you take a first set of deep breaths. So let's say you're sat at your desk. You close your eyes, first set of deep breaths. And during those deep breaths, you're just focused on relaxing. You may even say to yourself, "With these three deep breaths, I am now relaxing," sinking deeper and deeper into your seat, releasing any tension you might have in your jaw, your shoulders, three deep breaths to fully relax.

The next set of three deep breaths is to let go of the past. And so you're taking your three next three deep breaths in through the nose, out through the mouth, and you're letting go of the past. And you may even say to yourself, "And what these next three deep breaths, I'm letting go of the past." The past no longer exists. You choose to not identify with it. And with the next set of three deep breaths, you let go of the future. And you may say to yourself, "With these next three deep breaths, I'm letting go of the future. The future hasn't happened yet. I need only focus on where I am right now."

And with the next set of three deep breaths, I want you to focus on taking a vacation in the present moment because if you've let go of the past, and if you've let go of the future, all you're left with is the present and it will feel like a vacation, no stress, no anxiety. So three deep breaths. And you say, "And with these next three deep breaths, I'm taking a vacation in the present moment. This is the only place that I need to be right here, right now."

And then you take a final three deep breaths. Your eyes remained closed during this whole time to really enjoy that feeling of being completely relaxed and now in that flow state. And coming out of those three deep breaths, you then focus on your work ahead with a clear mind, relaxed, and you will notice a significant increase in your productivity and your ability to resist distraction. And what happens if you suddenly feel like you're all over the place and you're anxious again, do the whole sequence again, and keep doing that to bring yourself back to that flow state over and over and over and over again and you too will see a huge increase in your productivity.
